Have you ever been caught inside a barreling wave? No? Me neither. I imagine it would be like being in the center of a blue cyclone with active, liquid walls. Moments here are fleeting and you have to keep moving to make it last. As the waves above roll over your head, you race the speed of the ocean, hoping the power of the wave won't surpass you, but will stay with you long enough to maintain the icy blue cave that is your temporary home. The blue room comes and goes and swallows you whole.
On the North Shore of Oahu, winter brings in massive waves, resulting in shore breaks of white Hawaiian snow. This frothy foam wraps itself up and around the sand, daring beach patrons to come closer. After moving to the islands from a climate that experienced all four seasons, for better or worse, I love that Hawaiian seasons indicate changes in wave height more than temperature. The icy blue tones of this frothy scene at sunset mixed with the pastel color changes in the cloud remind me of the warmth of Hawaiian winters mixed with the cool reality of the winters around the world.
